The Journey Girl tells the story of Annie; an Aussie backpacker trekking around Europe who finds herself lost and suffering acute food poisoning in a lonely church hall somewhere near Slovenia – or at least she thinks it’s Slovenia.

Here – Annie confronts her own mortality as well as an unending barrage of home-truths as she recounts the ups and downs of her ‘big trip’ away. If only she can stay awake long enough to catch the next train back to Germany. If only she can find an ounce of self-respect. If only…

Written for Melbourne performer Emma Powell and based on the letters of award winning novelist Cath Crowley; The Journey Girl was first produced by Homemade Musicals in 1997. Subsequent productions have been staged at St.Martins Theatre, The Atheneum Theatre, 45 Downstairs and most recently by the Tasmanian Theatre Company in 2012. Productions have starred the likes of Emma Powell, Amanda Levy and Amanda Harrison.

I know what you’re thinking I’m not usually a drama queen. Actually I’m an Australian. We don’t go in for dramatics.
